There’s no denying that Land Rover Defenders in their standard form look great, but at Thomas Performance, we believe there’s more potential to a Defender than meets the eye. We pride ourselves on providing the ultimate in personalisation and upgrades when it comes to the Land Rover Defender. We’re aware that everyone looks for something different, and wants to make their Defender an extension of who they are and reflect their lifestyle choices. Whether that be Overlanding, Offroading On-Road, Tuned and more.
With our extensive range of parts and Defender Upgrades, you can tailor your vehicle to be as unique as you are. Below are four quick modifications you can make to your Land Rover and make it your own:
1. LED Headlights
An obvious way to modernise and improve the look and performance of your Defender is to fit LED Lighting. The standard headlights, often referred to as 'candles in the wind' offer very little usable light during night-time driving.
The combination of performance and eye-catching looks can be yours with just a bolt-on procedure, and with over 30,000 hours or more lifespan, they’ll be the last headlights you will ever need to fit. At Thomas Performance we stock a range of quality LED Headlights suitable for any Defender & Classic Range Rover.
2. Side Steps / Side Impact Protection
Side Steps are a common Defender modification which enhance the look & usability of any Defender. Our particular favourite are known as 'Fire & Ice' side-steps, and look fantastic in all-black (part number #LR008379B) . As well as enahncing the look of your Defender these steps also help to make entering & exiting your vehicle much more convenient, whilst also protecting your panels against car park knocks & dings.
3. Mantec Rear Wheel Carrier
A swing-away wheel carrier comes highly recommended by TPUK. One of the best on the market is that of Mantec. Our Mantecswing away carriers fit Defender 90 and 110 models and makes the rear door automatically swings out of the way. The smooth swing-away action is aided by a smooth strut.
The rear carrier helps to take the strain and weight of the spare wheel directly off the back door and onto the chassis. As a result the rear door hinges will last longer and help prevent cracking.
4. VNT Turbo
If like us you wish to seek further performance from your Land Rover Diesel look no further. A standard, fixed geometry turbo design is always a compromise. Engines need a small turbo for fast spool-up and improve throttle response (reduced turbo-lag) but the small compressor size does not allow enough flow for anything beyond mid-range revs. So a larger turbo is required for mid-range and higher revs and increased flow, but this leads to increased lag at the low end.
The VGT – Variable Geometry Turbocharger acts like a small turbo initially then alters geometry to increase flow in higher revs, giving an improved spread of power across the rev range. TD5 VGT units use a special actuator operated by boost pressure to control the vane angle. Thomas Performance VGT are designed to be a direct replacement for the original requiring no mods to the vehicle.
At Thomas Performance, we help to deliver a real identity for your vehicle.
